Note:
1.When a noun (masculine or feminine) starts with a vowel or ‘h’- mute, l’ is used
instead of ‘le’ or ‘la’.
2.In French all nouns posses gender and the gender of the noun affects the sentence
pattern. So nouns are
learned with their gender indicatives, ‘un’, ‘une’, ‘le’, or ‘la’.

Singular nouns:
1.un livre (uhN leev-ruh) = book
2.une fenêtre (ewn fuh-neh-truh) = window
3.le nez (luh ney) = nose
4.la mère (lah mehr) = mother
5.l’eau (loh) = water
6.la pomme (lah pohhm) = apple
7.l’autobus (loh-toh-bews) = the bus
8.un autobus (uhN oh-toh-bews) = a bus
9.Je prends de l’eau (zhuh pruhd duh loh) = I take some water.
10.Le livre du professeur (luh lee-vruh dew proh- fuh-suhr)
= The book of the professor.
Plural nouns:
1.des livres (dey leevruh) = books
2.des nez (dey ney) = noses
3.les maisons (ley meh – zohn) = houses
4.des fils (dey fees) = sons
5.les nuages (ley new-ahzh) = clouds
6.du pain (duh paN) = some bread
7.du fromage (duh froh-mahzh) = some cheese
8.de la salade (duh lah sah-lahd) = some salad
9.de l’eau (duh loh) = some water
